As new technologies become increasingly embedded in workplaces, questions about who shapes technological change, and who bears the risks, are becoming more urgent.

While automation can improve autonomy and the quality of work for some, it can also intensify workloads, increase surveillance and threaten job security for others. These benefits and risks are not distributed evenly.

Join us for the launch of new research and practical tools from the Institute for the Future of Work, exploring how innovation ecosystems, workers' awareness of rights, and representation mechanisms shape whether technological change delivers better work or entrenches existing inequalities.

Drawing on our existing research on automation archetypes, we explore how different forms of technological change impact different demographic and occupational groups - why some workers are more likely to experience monitoring, algorithmic management and other forms of control.

A key finding is the importance of perceived rights: not simply what rights workers have on paper, but whether they understand those rights and feel able to use them to question or influence changes in their workplace.

This webinar will explore what these findings mean for the governance of technological change, and how anticipatory governance and meaningful worker participation can help ensure that innovation promotes good work rather than reproducing existing inequalities.
